An audio technology Justin Timberlake partly owns is making its debut appearance at CES 2015 in Las Vegas this week.

Though it was unclear whether Timberlake was able to fulfill his earlier plans to attend the state-of-the art consumer electronics show, his Scottsdale-based company, AfterMaster Audio Labs, is very much in attendance.

“We are debuting our chip and our technology,” said Larry Ryckman, president and CEO of AfterMaster Audio Labs. “We are doing demos for an array of technology companies…We obviously think this is the kickoff of our company.”

For AfterMaster Audio Labs, a subsidiary of Studio One Media in Scottsdale, CES 2015 marks a beginning, Ryckman said.

The research and development phase is over, and the product is now commercially available, he said.

AfterMaster created technology that makes audio louder, clearer and fuller, Ryckman said.

“This is not a subtle effect,” he said. “Anything that is audio, when it goes through our process, sounds significantly better across the board.”

The company has partnered with ON Semiconductor, which has essentially taken the AfterMaster technology and put it into a chip, Ryckman said.

The product can be used in such devices as cell phones, tablets, sound bars, computers, televisions, headphones, even clock radios, Ryckman said.

Timberlake, the multiplatinum Grammy-winning pop star, was originally expected to participate in the demonstrations, Ryckman said. However, it seemed his plans may have changed.

“Justin Timberlake is not only a partner he is also a businessman who believes in the technology,” Ryckman said.

Described as an audiophile by Ryckman, Timberlake came on board last year after listening to enhanced and remastered sound. Readers can listen to demonstrations online at http://aftermasterhd.com/listen-2/.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this groundbreaking company,” Timberlake said in a statement. “The first time I heard audio, post AfterMaster, I knew that I had to be a part of this company and that we had something revolutionary on our hands.”

Company co-founders Ryckman and chief engineer Shelly Yakus had previously launched the audio technology company QSound with Jimmy Iovine in 1986.
